The queue to pass through the security screens reached completely around the Square, that meant at least an hour to queue. Time for Plan B. The Coliseum. T he reason for the queues, Monday. Most of the other museums are closed on Monday. This is the gospel according to Aaron, a likeable Aussie gatherer. What is a gatherer I hear you say? A breed of people whose role is to talk to English speaking tourists. The task, "gather" them into a walking tour signup. To be honest it was nice to talk to someone with whom English was a primary language. As with most of our trip decisions, we looked to the weather gods and decided to take the number 81 bus to the Coliseum, leaving the Vatican for the rainy day to follow. The bus ticket cost 1 Euro for 75 minutes of travel on as many buses as you liked. We stayed away from the metro as the scary gypsy pickpockets lived downstairs and the scenery in the metro sucked. Time has little meaning on a trip once you set off and we were fascinated by the small, intimate shops that line the streets as the bus meandered across Rome.
