Zumthor’s Thermae of Stone in Source SDK part 5: Props.
| Model of Peter Zumthor's proyect, the thermal baths in Vals, Switzerland. This map is part of a series of entries using the Half Life 2: Episode 2 Engine, in order to show the process of map-making using Valve's tools. This won't be a playable map, just a personal investigation about simulation in architecture. This time i've added some custom models and some particle effects into de the map (you can get the water particles from here www.youtube.com and some of the "real world" textures here www.youtube.com ). Making props is fairly easy, once you get the hang of the folder structure, creating models and skinning —though time consuming— can be quite fun. Also i made colour corrections to fit the darker look inside the building and to achieve a warm and peaceful sensation via color balance and HSV. Overall the maps looks way better than the early versions, but i'm displeased with the strange behavior of the VRAD. Probably is due to my inexpirience with advanced compiling commands, but some shadows (specially the ceiling ones cast onto the floor) are just a pain. Anyway, next time i'll try to tweak the color corrections i've made, add more props, add soundscapes and make a decent skybox. |
